You are cordially invited to participate in the SUGAPAS Project final conference. The event will take place at the Sportcampus of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS).
Supporting Gamified Physical Activities in & out of Schools (SUGAPAS) is an Erasmus+ funded project. The project supports the European 2020 strategy that stresses the need for transforming educational content for instruction and training in a way that engages, motivates and immerses students to develop personal experiences of constructing their learning experiences. The project started in March 2020 and now comes to its final stage, the dissemination of the tools developed for wide implementation in educational programs.
We all know that less healthy lifestyles are a potential threat for chronic diseases, like obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular events. Lack of physical activities and poor food habits contribute to a large extend to this threat. During the course of the SUGAPAS project a team of international experts in the field developed a multitude of interventions to support teachers and educational institutions in their activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Three examples are:
BATTLE4HEALTH
The game, both Android and iOS, combines the promotion of physical activity with learnings about healthy food. This game can be played by students between 12–18 years old as an individual, but also in competition with students all over the world. Social engagement with other students will stimulate its use and creates fun and motivation. Besides, they can learn from each other and make friends in other countries.
SUGAPAS MOOC
The Massive Open Online Course offers educational tools about healthy lifestyle, healthy diets and physical activities. Each course is completed with a questionnaire, upon correct completion of this course a certificate is issued. These courses are intended to be integrated into the curriculum of educational institutions.
SUGAPAS OBSERVATORY
How much fun is it to see how your country compares to other countries in for example number of exercise steps, walking time, sleeping time, healthy food and game points? The observatory increases motivation and commitment to beat other countries. Also, over time it shows improvements.
WHY ATTENDING
For you as a teacher SUGAPAS offers valuable novel educational tools which can easily be implemented in your lessons. All tools and courses are freely available via the internet. The international environment will motivate students to follow these courses, building their international social networks.
In the workshop you will receive information about the training toolkit and learn about the experiences from those who already used this toolkit.
For policy makers in health, nutrition, sports and education it will be interesting to notice the improvements in healthy lifestyle or to identify the shortcomings, which may help to restructure a regional strategy. For any other interested party or for students, the project offers interesting educational and learning tools to support healthier lifestyles.
The participants of the conference will receive a certification of attendance.
